Academic Assistance

• GEOLOGY LEARNING CENTER AND TUTORING PROGRAM:  The Learning Center and tutoring services are available to all students currently enrolled in GSCI 100, 101, or 111.  The Center is located in Greene 217.  Assistance is provided by both student tutors and faculty. The Center maintains regular hours on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. (Student and faculty assistance will be available on Fridays, and may be available on some Mondays ).  These hours may be extended prior to lab exams. The Learning Center offers both drop-in service and individual tutoring and assistance by appointment.

 
• GROUP REVIEW:  Group Review for specific courses is provided as deemed necessary by course instructors. (Please contact the professor of your course to determine whether review sessions will be offered.)

• DISCIPLINE-SPECIFIC PRESENTATIONS: These presentations include, but are not limited to, the following topics: use of specific lab equipment, use of relevant computer programs, and procedures for applying to graduate school. These presentations are offered annually and are based on demand.

 
• WEEKLY SEMINARS:  Weekly seminars include field camp presentations, talks by professionals in the field, and student research presentations. Local field trips are also offered as part of this weekly seminar series.

The Geology Department offers seminars on professional and graduate study opportunities available in the field of geology. (Please contact the Geology Department office  to  find out  about topics, dates and times.)
