What is IGC?
Serving Geneseo for 90 years!
The Inter-Greek Council was established in 1915 to provide a governing body for the Greek Organizations at that time. The original members were Delphic, Phi Kappa Pi, Phi Alpha, Agonian, and Arethusa. To join IGC, a Greek letter organization must petition for membership and apply for College recognition.
According to our Constitution..."The purpose of this Council shall be to provide an organizational framework for promoting the interests of fraternities and sororities at the State University of New York College at Geneseo; to unite the members of these organizations in good fellowship and loyalty, to establish policies for the regulation of Greek organizations; to enforce, impartially and unfailingly, the policies stated herein; and to cooperate with college authorities in their efforts to promote high standards of scholastic achievement and social conduct."
IGC is currently comprised of 10 sororities and 8 fraternities, all of whom are officially affiliated with and recognized by the administration at SUNY Geneseo. The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) currently works in conjunction with IGC and unites multicultural and special-interest fraternities and sororities. The National Panhellenic Council (NPC) functions under the umbrella of the Inter Greek Council, keeping the national sororities' goals and interests in mind.

Executive Board is comprised of representatives of the 18 affiliated Greek Organizations. Elections are held each semester to fill these positions. Any member of a Greek Organization may run for an IGC executive board position. The executive board members are resposible for running the weekly meetings, planning Greek events, and assuring all Greek Organizations adhere to the policies and procedures deemed necessary by The College.
