Teaching takes up most of my time and effort during the academic year. Above and beyond set theory and logic, I enjoy teaching discrete mathematics and finding ways to help students deal with the transition into upper-division courses. My research and teaching have taken a turn to the applied, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between biology and mathematics.

I have been fortunate enough to have taken classes with some wonderful mathematicians and friends--Michael Henle, George Andrews and the late Eddie Wong at Oberlin, and Andreas Blass at Michigan. What I know about mathematics and my attitude toward this subject and this profession are due in large part to them. Of course, they get no credit for my weaknesses and failings. Those I manage on my own.  Just like everyone else.
