What is your general area of specialty or interest?

Psychology of Language, the general study of language perception and use.


What are your specific research interests?

My specific interests are in the areas of visual word recognition, word association, and spoken word usage.


What are your current active research projects?

My most recent project will examine the benefit to word recognition (e.g., Is METAL a word?) after previewing multiple related words (e.g., COPPER-BRONZE-SILVER).

 

Would you be willing to work with students as assistants with your research projects at this time?

Yes.


If yes, how many?

1-2 per semester.


Do you prefer to choose your research assistants yourself or are you willing to be approached by students?

I am willing to be approached by students who are interested in language research and/or who have taken a course with me previously.


In what aspects of your research are student assistants involved (e.g. data collection, data analysis, hypothesis formation, literature reviews, writing)?

Research assistants are typically involved in design, word selection, and data collection.


Are there any special comments/instructions you would like interested students to know about you, your projects, or what you are looking for?

I am looking for students with a general interest in language research who possess strong computer skills (e.g., Excel), including an interest in learning basic computer programming.
