2008 RECOGNITION AWARDS
Several years ago a committee composed of members of the Facilities Services Department proposed a number of recognition awards for classified employees in the Division. In response to the committee’s recommendations, we established three recognition programs:
Recognition for Maximum Sick Leave Accruals
Those classified employees in the Division, who have maintained maximum sick leave accruals throughout the year. This is a particularly significant recognition, as sick leave accruals, while a benefit and not an entitlement, upon retirement count as additional time toward the calculation of years of state service. The value of that accrued sick leave is put into an annuity that goes toward paying health insurance in retirement.
There were two employees in the Division, who maintained maximum sick leave accruals for the 2008 year. Each will receive a certificate and a $50 savings bond. They are:
Diane L. Cuozzo
Kevin J. Callan
Recognition for Using No Sick Time
Those classified employees in the Division, who used no sick leave throughout the year. As I mentioned before, sick leave is there to use when one is sick. It is a very generous benefit. I was impressed that we have 25 (up from 20 in 2007) who will be recognized for not using any sick leave during 2008. Each will receive a certificate and a $50 savings bond. They are:
- Jose R. Alvarado
- Bruce T. Bennett
- Janis Breedlove
- Brian L. Burley
- Kevin J. Callan
- John C. Carney
- Guy M. Christiano
- Marjorie E. Cox
- Claudia K. Forrester
- Terry L. Hamilton
- Donald F. Howe
- Dean J. Johantgen
- Corinne K. King
- Leo J. Lancer
- George Latko
- Roy B. Meissner
- Steven M. Morse
- David N. Newcomb
- Lon L. Peck
- Lenwood E. Rider
- Cheryl A. Robson
- Steven L. Schunk
- Richard J. Travis
- Lauralee E. Waden
- Cynthia K. Wood
Work Smart, Work Safely Award
This is awarded to those units in the Facilities Services Department that have no reported lost-time accidents during the previous year. Units so recognized will receive a unit certificate and their choice of a pizza party or donuts, bagels, and coffee for all unit members. For 2008 there were four units with no work-related, lost-time accidents. They are:
Core Shop (Supervisor: Ron Morsch)
Fleet Garage (Supervisor: Steve Benchik)
Heating Plant (Supervisor: Bill Cox)
Stores & Receiving (Supervisor: Kirk Spangler)
