In 2007, a group of students from the University of Rochester had an idea: They would strengthen the "town and gown" relationship between students and the city by showcasing Rochester's creativity in an underused location downtown. The inaugural ArtAwake took place in March of 2008 in the vacant space in Station 55 on Railroad Street. The event displayed over 225 pieces of artwork by over 75 local and student artists, and included performances by 15 different bands and musicians. It was an overwhelming success, attracting approximately 1,500 attendees of all ages, students and community members alike. Coming into year three, ArtAwake is poised to be better than ever and is ready to take on the challenge of being the best its ever been, with the largest attendance yet. For more info: www.artawake.org Toronto with the Biology Club *Friday, April 16 - Sunday, April 18, 2010* This is a grant sponsored trip Departure: 1pm (4/16) from the loop outside the MacVittie College Union Return: approximately 11pm (4/18) Limited to: 56 individuals Admissions: $40per person deposit ($110 total) - cash or check. Checks should be made payable to Bios/Janice Lovett. Tickets: On sale Wednesday, March 10th at 9am in the SA Ticket Office located on the first floor of the MacVittie College Union. Join the Biology Club for this weekend-Long trip to Toronto. The tentative itinerary includes a trip to the Toronto Zoo, the Ontario Science Center, and a trip to the Rainforest Cafe. To participate in this trip, you must have a New York State Enhanced Driver's License or Passport and must show your documentation when paying your deposit. Rochester Self-Guided Tours Throughout Fall and Spring Semesters Take advantage of the LATS bus system to explore the Rochester area and some of the attractions and services the city offers. Stops include Marketplace Mall, Little Theatre, Memorial Art Gallery, GEVA Theatre, Borders, and many more.
