007Consistently ranked as one of the top public liberal arts colleges in the northeast by US News & World Report, Geneseo's intercollegiate athletics program reflects the commitment to excellence by offering a wide range of programs for both the serious and recreational athlete.

 

The college's intercollegiate athletics program is comprised of 20 teams, fielding teams in 12 women's sports and eight men's.Through the 2011-12 academic year in active sport offerings, Geneseo has posted an all-time, all-sports record of 5,557 wins, 4,217 losses and 187 ties for a 56.7 winning percentage.

 

In 2011-12, Geneseo teams won 56.6% of their contests with 159 wins against 121 losses and sixr ties. The Knights won six SUNYAC championships; women's tennis, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's swimming & diving (their 14th straight), women's swimming & diving and men's indoor track & field on their way to finishing second in the SUNYAC Commissioner's Cup standings for overall sports performance in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). In addition, Geneseo finished 54th of over 440 Division III institutions in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics/Learfield Cup standings for overall Division III national championship performance.

A total of 19 of 20 programs reached postseason competition with the men's cross country, women's cross country and women's tennis teams participating in the NCAA Championships. The women's swimming & diving, indoor and outdoor track and field teams sending individual representatives to NCAA Division III competitions.

Seven student-athletes earned 18 all-America awards and three student-athletes were named SUNYAC Player of the Year; Lee Berube for men's cross country, Bridget McGovern for field hockey and Wenley Louis for men's indoor field. In addition, Katie Gayvert of the women's tennis team, was chosen as recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence and Ken Pink earned the James Fulton Award for Career Achievement in SUNYAC Men's Swimming & Diving.

Geneseo student-athletes perform in the classroom as well as the playing fields. In 2011-12, 249 (58.6%) of our student-athletes were named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.3 or higher during their season of competition and 142 (33.4%) of our athletes were recognized on the Commissioner's List for maintaining a 3.3 grade point average or higher for three consecutive semesters. Seven student-athletes were selected as SUNYAC Scholar-Athlete in their sport last year: junior Kaitlin Wilcoxen (women's swimming & diving), junior Katie Talbot (women's tennis), junior Frank DiSanti (men's lacrosse), junior Chris Mateer (men's outdoor track & field), sophomore Mary Aldridge for women's outdoor track & field and seniors Stephanie Iasiello and Julie Philipson (equestrian).

Geneseo coaches earned four SUNYAC Coach of the Year awards in 2011-12: Mike Woods (men's cross country and women's cross country), Jim Chen (women's tennis) and Dave Prevosti (men's indoor track & field).

 

MMweb1For the recreational athlete, the college provides 23 intramural leagues in nine sports and 11 single day tournaments, along with recreational hours in the gymnasiums, swimming pool, ice arena, and jogging track. The college also has an all-weather outdoor track, two soccer/lacrosse fields, a softball diamond, field hockey field and many intramural fields.
