New Paltz, N.Y. –
The Geneseo men’s basketball team (5-3, 3-0 SUNYAC) moved into sole possession
of first place in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)
standings with an 84-63 win at New Paltz (4-5, 2-2 SUNYAC) Saturday. The Blue
Knights are the only SUNYAC team unbeaten in conference play.
Geneseo’s 84 points, 27 assists and 60.3 field-goal percentage were all the
team’s second-highest single-game marks of the season.
Sophomore forward Gordon Lyons (Amherst/Canisius) came off the bench to record
team-high totals of 16 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Ryan
Riefenhauser (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) scored 12 points; junior guard Connor
Fedge (Bellport/Bellport) and sophomore guard Andy Drescher (Christian Brothers
Academy/Fayetteville) both added 10.
Junior guard Thomas Decker (White Plains/Archbishop Stepanic) and sophomore James
McKenna (Huntington/St. Anthony’s) scored nine points apiece; McKenna was
making his first start of the season.
Drescher’s career-best six assists led Geneseo; sophomore forward Devon
Anderson (Plattsburgh/Beekmantown) and senior guard Marcus Hoy (Batavia/Batavia)
both had a career-high three.
Riefenhauser contributed four rebounds and three assists. Junior forward Jordan
Jones (Rochester/McQuaid Academy) pulled down six rebounds.
The Blue Knights are idle until
hosting Medaille in a non-league game Wednesday, Jan. 2.
