Potsdam, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s lacrosse team (2-2) lost
for the first time since the season opener, dropping a 9-3 decision at Clarkson
(4-1) Saturday.
Sophomore attack Sam Thompson (Queensbury/Queensbury) recorded his third
straight multi-goal performance, raising his season total to a team-leading 10
with two goals.
Thompson scored both of his goals in the second quarter, tallying twice 1:24
apart after the host Golden Knights had taken a 5-0 lead.
Senior midfielder Jeff Dunworth (Katonah/John Jay) assisted on Thompson’s first
goal and sophomore attack Brent Lawless (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) picked up the
assist on his second goal. Dunworth’s assist was his first point of the spring.
Senior midfielder Tim Burgess (Syracuse/Westhill) closed out Geneseo’s scoring with his first career point, collecting an unassisted
goal 1:19 into the fourth quarter.
Burgess led the Knights with four
ground balls and senior midfielder Chris Topping (Webster/Schroeder) picked up
three.
Junior Ryan Zaremba (Bay Shore/Army Prep) and senior Michael Greubel (North
Merrick/Mepham) each played a half in goal; Zaremba made 10 saves and picked up three ground balls and Greubel
turned aside three shots.
Dunworth caused a pair of turnovers, giving him a team-best total of14 this
season.
The Knights take on New England College Wednesday in a game that will be played
at Goucher College.
