2011 SUNY Geneseo Men's Cross CountryThe SUNY Geneseo cross country team has been an intercollegiate sport since the 1967. Head coach Mike Woods is a 1969 graduate of Geneseo and is in his 20th season. The men's program was started by coach Dunc Hinckley and in 1980, the women's program was started under the direction of coach Rich Ceronie. The 2011 women's cross country team finished 12th for the second year in a row in their 13th straight and 17th overall appearance at the NCAA Division III meet to highlight the season for 20th year head coach Mike Woods, '69. Geneseo finished second in the Atlantic Region and won the SUNYAC title for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons. Senior Alyssa Smith paced the Blue Knights throughout the season, finishing 65th at the national meet after claiming All-Atlantic Region honors with a six place finish and first team All-SUNYAC after a third place performance. Junior Danae Polsin and senior Ashley Jones combined All-Region with first team All-SUNYAC, while junior Emily Sullivan and first year Cassie Goodman ran to All-Region recognition. At the SUNYAC meet, junior Brigid Heenan and first year Alyssa Knott accepted second team All-SUNYAC awards, Polsin and Heenan were new inductees into the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame and Woods won the SUNYAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year award for the 10th time. The men's cross country team highlighted the fall 2011 Geneseo Athletics season by finishing a program-best fourth place of 32 teams in their ninth straight appearance at the NCAA Division III championships for 20th year head coach Mike Woods, '69. On the way to the nationals, Geneseo finished second at the NCAA Atlantic Regional and captured their third in a row and 11th overall SUNYAC championship. Senior Lee Berube turned in a dream season for the Blue Knights as he won individual titles at the Penn State Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, the Geneseo Invitational for the third time, the St. Lawrence Pre-Regional with a course record time, the SUNYAC for the third time and the Atlantic Region for the second time to earn Region Runner of the Year, before posting a Geneseo-best second place individual finish at the national meet to earn his second cross country and sixth career All-America certificate. Senior Eddie Novara claimed his second straight All-America award after a 25th place in a field of 279 runners to go along with All-Region and first team All-SUNYAC honors. Junior Tom Clark claimed All-Atlantic Region and first team All-SUNYAC, seniors Mark Streb and A.J. Corcoran earned first team All-SUNYAC and the duo of senior Chris Carter and sophomore Chris Moore claimed second team All-SUNYAC recognition. Streb and Clark were new entries into the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame, while Woods earned SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the ninth time.
