Rochester, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s track & field team competed
at Friday’s Brown and Orange Invitational at Rochester Institute of Technology.
No team scores were kept at the meet, where the Knights recorded three
first-place finishes.
Leading the way was the distance medley relay team that posted a winning time
of 10:06.32 – the program’s fourth-fastest time ever and the second-fastest
mark by a Division III team this season. Senior Chris Carter (Grand
Island/Grand Island) ran the 1,200-meter leg, followed by senior Jesse
Cleary-Krell in the 400, junior Tony George (West Seneca/West Seneca West) in
the 800 and senior Alex Brimstein (Webster/Webster-Thomas) in the 1,600.
Junior Patrick Wortner (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) won the 5,000-meter run in
15:38.74 and sophomore Luke Taverne (Vernon/Westmoreland) took first in the
high jump, clearing 6-4 (1.93 meters).
The Knights posted seven other top-five performances, with senior Brendan
Murphy (Katonah/Iona Prep) finishing fourth in the weight throw. His distance
of 50-8 1/4 (15.45 meters) is an ECAC Championships qualifying performance.
Senior Chris Mateer (Webster/Webster-Thomas) and senior Tim Chambers (Baldwinsville/C.W.
Baker) placed second and fifth, respectively, in the mile run with times of
4:22.83 and 4:27.65.
Senior Mike Mattiucci (Webster/Webster-Thomas) took third in the 3,000-meter
run (8:58.71), sophomore Cole DeClerck (Webster/Webster-Thomas) placed fourth
in the 5,000-meter run (15:43.79) and junior Nathaniel DeBoever (West
Hurley/Onteora) and junior Jake Passan (Troy/Averill Park) notched fifth-place
finishes. DeBoever finished the 800-meter run in 2:00.10 and Pasanen cleared
13-1 3/4 (4.01 meters) in the pole vault.
The Knights compete at the SUNYAC Championships Saturday. Geneseo is the
defending conference champion.
