Novara, the 2011-12 Male Athlete of the Year is a member of the men's cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams. In 2011-12, Novara earned his second career All-America certificate at the 2011 NCAA Division III Cross Country championships after finishing in 25th place. He finished second at the SUNYAC Cross Country championships, where Geneseo won, was third in the Atlantic Region race, which Geneseo won, and aided the Blue Knights to a program-best fourth place team finish at the national championships. During the indoor track season, he helped Geneseo to the team SUNYAC title after winning the mile run and qualifying for the NCAA Division III Indoor championships, where he finished 10th place in the mile. During the outdoor season, he set a SUNYAC record in the 10,000 meters after finishing second at the prestigious Penn Relays on April 26 and on Saturday, May 5, paced Geneseo to a second place team finish at the SUNYAC championships by winning the 10,000 meters and the 1,500 meters. The English major with a 2.96 grade point average participated in the 2012 NCAA Division III outdoor championships in both the 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters.
