GENESEO, N.Y. – Eight members of the Geneseo women’s swimming & diving team
will be competing at the NCAA Championships, to be held March 20-23 at Conroe
Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.
The Knights qualified entrants in four events: the 500-yard freestyle and three
relays (800-yard freestyle relay, the 200-yard medley relay, and the 400-yard
medley relay)
Sophomore Abby Max (New Hartford/New Hartford) is seeded 11th in the 500-yard freestyle
with a time of 4:48.11.
The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Molly Carney (Chenango Forks/Chenango
Forks), senior Eileen Goralski (Queensbury/Queensbury), Abby Max and sophomore
Haleigh Wixson (Montour Falls/Watkins Glen) is seeded ninth with a time of
1:45.89.
The 800 freestyle relay of Abby Max, senior Elyssa Max (New Hartford/New
Hartford), junior Corrine Vairo (Poquott/Ward Melville) and Wixson is seeded
14th with a time of 7:37.97.
The 400 medley relay team of Abby Max, junior Lily Powell (Selkirk/Bethlehem), senior
Kaitlin Wilcoxen (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Wixson is seeded 16th with
a time of 3:51.14.
Of the 52 schools sending competitors to the NCAA Championships, only 10 will
have a bigger contingent than Geneseo’s.
The Knights placed 31st at last year’s NCAA Championships; Abby Max, Elyssa Max,
Powell and Wixson competed in four relay events. They placed 24th in the
200-yard medley relay and earned all-America honors in the 800-yard freestyle
(11th), 200-yard freestyle (15th) and 400-yard freestyle (15th) relays. Abby
Max will be competing in the 500-yard freestyle for the second year in a row.
