Head coach Kim Sanford (Delhi, '77) begins her eighth season, leading Geneseo to a third place finish out of 11 teams at the zone two, region two of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) in 2010-2011.
Sanford returns three riders from the zone two championships. Senior Katie Roberts (Penfield) won sixth on the flat in the Open class after finishing third nationally in 2009-10. Senior Julianne Pangal (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) and junior Ryan Lefkowitz (New Rochelle) compete in the Open class with Roberts.
Senior Casey Williamson (Shortsville/Red Jacket) finished third place over fences and fourth place on the flat in the Novice equitation. She will compete in the Intermediate Division this season. Junior Alexis Powers (South New Berlin/Unadilla) also competes as an Intermediate.
Seniors Julianne Batelli (Montgomery/Burke Catholic), Holly Schimpf (Walworth/Wayne), and Karina Stamatis (Victor/Fairport) lead a deep group in the Novice division. Juniors competing in the Novice class are Emily Oswald (Penn Yan/Marcus Whitman), Julie Philipson (Victor), and Lauren Weisberg (Ardsley). Sophomores Allie Catalino (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and Chelsea Weibel (Canandagua/Canandaigua Academy) round out the Novice division with first years Emily Lockard (Pittsford/Mendon), Danielle McCrohan (Manlius/Fayetteville) and Ashley Olin (Pleasantville/Byram Hills).
Senior Erin Moran (Hopewell Jct./John Jay) leads the Advanced Walk, Trot, Canter class after finishing fourth in that equitation last year. She leads a deep group that features seniors Ashley Grove (Rochester/Wilson Magnet), Ashley Holmes (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue), Stephanie Iasiello (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown), and Caroline Patton (Latham/Shaker). Juniors competing in Advanced WTC are April Krenzer (Livonia), Kate Makoweic (Baldwinsville/Bishop Ludden), and Kristen Rabb (Fairport). The class is rounded out with sophomores Caroline Bernhardt (Liverpool), Jordan Jones (Eden), Amy Malegna (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta), Kelly Yaeger (Webster/Thomas) and first year Amy Eschler (Pittsford/Mendon).
First year Kayla Geier (Sherburne/Earlville) is the lone rider competing at the Beginner Walk, Trot, Canter level. Junior Megan Olscamp (Rochester/Greece Arcardia) and sophomore Jordan Laux (Manlius/Blackman) rounds out the roster in the Walk/Trot division.
The Blue Knights begin the first of eight shows this season on Saturday, October 29 at Cazenovia. Geneseo is scheduled to host two shows during the Geneseo Invitational at Rolelu Farms in Geneseo on Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13.
