The men's ice hockey team hosted the 20th-ranked Curry Colonels (9-4-1) and dropped a tough 3-2 decision tonight as Curry's Jerry Hotarek scored the game-winner, his second goal of the contest, at the 7:30 mark of the third period. Geneseo jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 4:48 of the first when sophomore Jimmy Powers scored from David Arduin and Stefan Decosse. Curry took a 2-1 lead at the first intermission on Hotarek's first goal at 6:58 and Josh Kamrass' score at 18:11. Geneseo tied the game at two at the 1:52 mark of the second period when Decosse ripped a shot from the right faceoff circle over the shoulder of the Curry netminder with Arduin picking up the helper. Curry got 30 saves from Steven Jakiel and Geneseo's Adrian Rubeniuk stopped 28 shots in taking the loss. The Ice Knights, who were 0-10 on the power play, fall to 7-9-1 on the season and host the Plattsburgh Cardinals on Friday at 7 p.m.
The men's basketball team traveled to the University of Rochester as the #8 seed to take on fifth-seeded Brockport this afternoon in the consolation round of the Wendy's College Classic and dropped an 83-69 decision to the Golden Eagles. Brockport raced to a 14-point lead at halftime, 42-28, but the Knights opened the second half with an 8-1 run to reach their closest margin of 43-36 with 17:06 remaining. The Golden Eagles stretched out the lead to as many as 19 points in the second stanza to cruise to the win. Senior Kyle Stevens scored 16 points with a career-high 12 rebounds, senior Brandon Simpson scored 16 points with nine boards and sophomore Abe Miller netted 15 points with career-bests in rebounds (12) and assists (5). The Blue Knights fall to 2-9 on the season and will face #7 Keuka in the seventh place game on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John Fisher.
