Sophomore David Arduin scored two goals and an assist and classmate Stefan Decosse handed out four assists as the men's hockey team defeated visiting Cortland by a score of 7-3. The Ice Knights scored three times in the opening four minutes and held a two-goal lead or more the rest of the way. First year Colin de Jersey opened the scoring with his second of the year from Decosse and Ryan Bulach at 1:42, junior Daniel Sullivan scored his first of the year from Clint Olson at 2:16 and senior Phil Rose netted his fifth of the season from Dan Brown at 3:59 to get Geneseo rolling. Sophomore Jonathan Redlick scored from Arduin and Decosse on the power play at 5:04 of the second to make it 4-1 and Brown scored from senior Sebastian Panetta and Olson on the power play at 9:27 of the third for a 6-3 lead. Arduin got his two goals from Decosse at 14:11 of the second and 13:37 of the third. First year Adrian Rubeniuk made 38 saves to post the win in nets as Geneseo advances to 12-10-2 overall and 8-6-1 in SUNYAC. Geneseo hosts #1 Oswego on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Junior Alyssa Polosky scored a career-high 22 points on 9-18 from the field 4-6 from the arc with 14 rebounds to lead Geneseo to a 59-53 win over host Plattsburgh. Sophomore Katelyn Charbonneau hit 4-7 from long range for 12 points with six boards, classmate Bri Dunton added 10 points on 3-5 from the floor and 4-5 from the line and junior Brittany Finkle grabbed 10 rebounds for the Blue Knights. Geneseo led 34-25 at the intermission and stretched the lead to 44-29 with 17:26 left in the second stanza. Plattsburgh chipped at the lead, drawing within three at 56-53 with 46 seconds left, but Polosky's three-pointer with 22 ticks remaining clinched the win for the Knights. Geneseo moves to 14-10 overall and 10-7 in SUNYAC and travels to Potsdam on Saturday. A win by the Blue Knights or a loss by Oswego at Buffalo State on Saturday gives Geneseo the #4 seed and a home SUNYAC playoff game on Tuesday.
The men's basketball team traveled to Plattsburgh tonight and lost a 72-69 decision to the Cardinals. Senior Brandon Simpson led Geneseo with 19 points on 7-22 from the floor and 5-7 from the line and sophomore Abe Miller hit 7-9 shots from the field and 2-3 from the charity stripe for 16 points with 11 rebounds. Senior Kyle Stevens added 13 points and 12 boards on 6-13 shooting and sophomore Mike Hoy chipped in 12 points on 4-7 from the floor, 3-5 from the arc and 1-1 from the line. Geneseo trailed 31-21 at halftime and Plattsburgh extended the lead to 13 points at 52-39 with 11:42 left. Geneseo chipped away at the lead and drew within one point at 67-66 with 3:16 remaining on a bucket by Miller. Plattsburgh answered with a basket at 2:58 and went 3-4 in the final minutes from the line for a 72-66 lead. Hoy's three-pointer with four ticks left made the final. The Blue Knights fall to 7-17 overall and 6-11 in SUNYAC and travel to Potsdam on Saturday. A win by Geneseo or a loss by Oswego at Buffalo State gives the Blue Knights a spot in next week's SUNYAC playoffs.
