Junior Danny Scagnelli scored 54 seconds into the game and first year Rich Manley scored two goals to lead the men's hockey team, ranked #20 in the first USCHO.com poll, to a 7-3 win over #4 Plattsburgh tonight. Scagnelli got the Ice Knights rolling when he intercepted a pass at the blue line and scored from the slot to give Geneseo a 1-0 lead. Junior Jake Yard made it 2-0 on the power play at 11:53 and after Plattsburgh's first goal at 13:35, junior Clint Olson made it 3-1 after one with only 34 ticks left in the frame. Manley's goals came consecutively at 17:36 of the second and 5:35 of the third and sophomore Ryan Bulach netted his team-best third of the season on the power play at 6:57 to give Geneseo a 6-1 lead. The Cardinals responded with a power play goal at 10:37 and struck again only 33 seconds later to cut the deficit to three, but senior Andrew Rygiel scored into an empty net with 25 seconds left to make the final. Junior Cory Gershon stopped 35 shots to earn the win in goal, Scagnelli, Yard and Rygiel finished with a goal and an assist and Kaz Iwamoto, Blake O'Connor and Zachary Vit tallied two helpers each. Geneseo is 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in SUNYAC and hosts Potsdam on Saturday at 7 p.m.
