GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s swimming & diving team (1-0) posted a 160-138 victory over visiting Fredonia (1-1) Saturday to open the 2012-13 season.
Senior Kaitlin Wilcoxen (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) and sophomores Abby Max (New Hartford/New Hartford)
and Haleigh Wixson (Montour
Falls/Watkins Glen) each won a pair of individual events and swam on a
first-place relay. Wilcoxen finished
first in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke with respective times of 1:09.77
and 2:32.38), Max won the 1,000-yard
freestyle (11:08.68) and 200-yard backstroke (2:11.64) and Wixson was the winner in the 50-yard freestyle (25.47) and 200-yard
individual medley (2:16.85).
Wixson and Wilcoxen were joined by first year Hailey Modelewski (Northport/Northport) and first year Julie Holloway (Pittsford/Rush Henrietta)
on the 200-yard medley relay team that posted a winning time of 1:52.40. In the
200-yard freestyle relay, Holloway, Max, junior Corinne Vairo (Poquott/Ward Melville) and sophomore Stephanie Wilcoxen
(Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) took first in 1:41.48.
Holloway took first in the 100-yard
freestyle (55.88) and Modelewski won
the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.97). First year Jenna Gibbons (Staten Island/Staten Island Tech) rounded out
Geneseo’s individual winners, placing first in the 200-yard butterfly
(2:19.89).
Vairo contributed second-place
efforts in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle with respective times of 2:03.02 and
5:30.11. Junior Molly Carney (Chenango
Forks/Chenango Forks) finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.75)
and sophomore Kristen Bormann (Farmingdale/Half
Hollow Hills East) was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:23.81). The
200-yard freestyle relay team – Lauren Boyce
(New Hartford/New Hartford), first year Betsy Erickson (Elma/Iroquois), junior Linda Chang (Great Neck/Great Neck South) and Modelewski – took second
in 1:43.85.
Geneseo
returns to action next Saturday, hosting Cortland in a 1 p.m. meet.
