Wooster, Ohio – The Geneseo women’s
basketball team (2-0) posted its second lopsided win in as many days, cruising
past Franciscan (0-3) 78-43 in the second round of Wooster’s Nan Nichols
Classic.
Senior forward Melissa Graham (Orchard Park/Mount Mercy) scored 22 points –
converting 10 of her 15 shots from the floor along with both free-throw
attempts – and sophomore forward Katie Peterson (Ithaca/Ithaca) scored a
career-high 16 points off the bench.
First year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn) pulled down a
game-high 12 rebounds as the Blue Knights outrebounded Franciscan 51-38
(Geneseo posted a rebounding advantage of +16.5 in its two games). She added
nine points and three of the team’s seven blocked shots.
Sophomore guard Cara Manfredi (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) added nine
points and sophomore guard Biz Reinhardt (Rochester/Hilton) contributed
career-high totals of five points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Blue Knights never trailed and used a 14-3 run to break an early 8-8 tie on
their way to a 35-23 halftime advantage. Peterson scored eight straight points
during a span of 2:21 early in the second half that helped Geneseo open up a
22-point lead.
Graham recorded seven rebounds and a game-high five assists. Sophomore forward
Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) made a career-best five steals to lead all
players. Both were named to the all-tournament team.
The Blue Knights are idle until Tuesday, Nov. 27 when they will play a
first-round game in the Wendy’s Classic. Pairings for the eight-team tournament
will be announced next weekend.
