Rochester, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s track & field team competed at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Early Season Open Thursday. No team scores were kept at the event.
Junior Allison Hoh (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) set a school record in the
60 hurdles, winning the event in 9.63.
Two other Blue Knights won individual events: senior Diahann Cueveo (Mohegan/Yorktown)
took first in the 60-meter dash (8.14) and graduate student Alyssa Smith (Rochester/Brighton)
posted a victorious time of 5:06.03 in the mile run.
Geneseo’s 3,200-meter relay team also finished first. Senior Cailin Kowalewski
(Fredonia/Fredonia), sophomore Hannah Wood (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North), first
year Shannon Murphy (Jamestown/Falconer) and Smith posted a time of 9:28.39. That
time was the second-fastest ever by a Geneseo quartet and just 2.02 seconds off
the school record.
Cueveo also placed second in the 200-meter dash (27.34) and junior Hannah
Hughes (Olean/Olean) finished second in the 400-meter dash (1:02.29). Wood and Kowalewski were second and third in
the mile run; their times of 5:06.06 and 5:08.28 rank sixth and ninth
respectively on the program’s all-time list.
Senior Jessica Shumway (Potsdam/Potsdam) cleared 1.53 meters in the high jump
for fourth place.
Junior Towi Kuberka (Clarence/Clarence) finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles
(10.28) and junior Stephanie Newman (West Seneca/Mount Mercy Academy) took
fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.94).
Sophomore Melissa Lam (Syosset/Syosset) placed sixth in the pole vault (2.43
meters) and sophomore Molly McGaley (Babylon/St. John the Baptist) finished
sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.31). Sophomore Elyssa Slawinski (East
Northport/Northport) was eighth in the weight throw (12.17 meters) and sophomore
Chinessa Ekweremuba (Brooklyn/Brooklyn Generation) was ninth in the 1,000-meter
run in 3:21.21.
The Blue Knights are idle until competing at the Spire Invitational Jan. 19.
