Dallas, Pa. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (6-3)
opened the second semester portion of its schedule with a 64-60 loss at
Misericordia (6-4) Friday.
The host Cougars erased an eight-point Geneseo lead (the Knights’ biggest of
the game) by closing the contest on a 17-5 run over the final 6:18.
Misericordia took the lead for good at 59-58 with 1:53 left then stretched its
advantage to three points before a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Biz
Reinhardt (Rochester/Hilton) pulled Geneseo to 61-60 with 16 seconds remaining.
The Knights wree forced to foul and the Cougars made three free throws in the
last seven seconds to seal the victory.
Sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) led Geneseo with 11
points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Melissa Graham (Orchard Park/Mount Mercy)
added 10 points and first year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn)
pulled down 10 rebounds to help the Knights to a 52-32 rebounding advantage.
Sophomore forward Katie Peterson (Ithaca/Ithaca) scored seven of her nine
points in the first half as Geneseo carried a 34-30 lead into intermission.
guard First year guard Dana Cohan (Rochester/Greece Athena) contributed six
points and a game-high five assists. Graham and McKenna both blocked a pair of
shots.
The Knights return to action Tuesday with a State University of New York
Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at Brockport.
