GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo ice hockey team (5-4-1, 4-1-1 SUNYAC) won its second straight game, beating visiting Potsdam (3-4-0, 2-4-0 SUNYAC) 6-2 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Saturday at Wilson Arena.

The Ice Knights scored a pair of late second-period goals 1:02 apart to break a 2-2 tie.
Senior forward Kaz Iwamoto (Tomakomai, Japan/Wyoming Seminary) scored his first two goals of the season – including the game-winner – and first year forward David Ripple (Winter Springs, Fla./Coulee Region Chill) recorded a career-high four points on a goal and three assists.

Senior Adrian Rubeniuk (Grandview, Man./Dauphin Kings) made 16 of his 34 saves with the Bears a man up as the Ice Knights successfully killed off all six Potsdam power plays. Rubeniuk’s 34 saves were his highest regulation total this season.

Iwamoto’s first goal of the season snapped a two-all tie with 1:39 left in the second period. Sophomore Justin Scharfe (Webster/Bridgewater Bandits) netted his first goal of the year just over a minute later.

Geneseo scored on two of its first four shots, with goals by junior forward Jonathan Sucese (Fairport/Northfield Mount Hermon) and first year Ryan Donnelly (Stittsville, Ont./Kanata Stallions) giving the Ice Knights a 2-0 lead just 4:18 into the game. Donnelly’s goal was the first of his career.

Ripple assisted on both of the Ice Knights’ first-period goals as well as Iwamoto’s second goal (with 5:36 left to play), then capped the scoring by tallying his second goal of the year with just under three minutes to go.

Sophomore defenseman Jack Caradonna (Markham, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) and junior forward Zachary Vit (Villanova, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) both recorded a pair of assists; they remain tied for the team scoring lead with nine points apiece. Senior forward Ryan Bulach (Kelowna, B.C./Trail Smoke Eaters) contributed two assists as well.

Geneseo is idle until a Dec. 1 conference game at Morrisville.
