Oswego, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (15-4,
10-3 SUNYAC) erased a 12-point second-half lead before host Oswego (14-4, 8-3
SUNYAC) came back to post a 59-54 win Tuesday in State University of New York
Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play.
The Knights trailed 38-26 4:21 into the second period before beginning their
rally, pulling to within two points on two occasions before using a 7-0 run to take
a 54-53 lead with 46 seconds left. That advantage – which came from two free
throws by sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) – was Geneseo’s
only lead of the game. The Lakers took the lead for good on a lay-up with 26
seconds to go then went four-for-four from the free throw line to seal the win.
McGinnis finished with 12 points. Senior guard Melissa Graham (East
Orchard/Mount Mercy) led the Knights with 14 points and four assists. First
year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn) scored nine points and
sophomore guard Cara Manfredi (South Glastonbury, Conn./South Glastonbury)
contributed seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.
The Knights return home to host Brockport in SUNYAC action Saturday at 6 p.m.
