GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo ice hockey team (12-5-1, 8-1-1 SUNYAC), ranked 19th by D3hockey.com and 20th in the USCHO.com poll, won for the ninth time in 10 games, beating visiting Buffalo State (9-8-2, 4-5-1 SUNYAC) Saturday in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) competition. The win snapped Buffalo State’s six-game unbeaten streak, which had been the second-longest in the nation.

The Knights nearly recorded their fourth shutout in seven games as the Bengals got on the board with just three seconds remaining in regulation.

For the seventh consecutive game Geneseo’s penalty killing unit didn’t allow a goal; the Knights have killed off the last 23 power-play opportunities they’ve faced.

Junior forward Jonathan Sucese (Fairport/Northfield Mount Hermon) and senior forward Corbin Rosmarin (Rexford/Northern Cyclones) scored Geneseo’s goals after a scoreless first period. Sucese picked up his fourth goal of the season late in the second period with sophomore defenseman Jack Caradonna (Markham, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) and first year forward David Ripple (Winter Springs, Fla./Coulee Region Chill) assisting. Caradonna, the Knights’ leading scorer, now has 16 assists. In the third period, Rosmarin scored his eighth goal of the year off assists by senior forward Ryan Bulach (Kelowna, B.C./Trail Smoke Eaters) and junior forward Zachary Vit (Villanova, Pa./Green Mountain Glades).

Sophomore Bryan Haude (Hilton/Hartford Wolfpack) stopped 30 shots and improved his record to a team-best 5-2-0. Haude lowered his goals-against average to 2.15.

In their last eight games the Knights have shut out three opponents and held three others to one goal.

Geneseo is back in action Friday with a SUNYAC game at Cortland.
