Shenandoah, Texas – Geneseo swimmers have advanced to
Wednesday night’s finals in two events on the first day of the NCAA Swimming
& Diving Championships.
Sophomore Abby Max (New Hartford/New Hartford) placed 16th in the preliminaries
of the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.91. She is making her second
straight appearance at nationals in the event after finishing 33rd last season.
In the 200-yard medley relay Geneseo placed 14th in the morning session, finishing
in 1:46.93. The quartet of sophomore Molly Carney (Chenango Forks/Chenango
Forks), senior Eileen Goralski (Queensbury/Queensbury), Max and sophomore Haleigh
Wixson (Montour Falls/Watkins Glen) was seeded 16th. Max and Wixson swam on the
Knights’ 200 medley relay that finished 24th a year ago.
The top 16 finishers in each individual and relay event earn all-America
honors.
Eight Knights are competing in a total of 13 events at the
NCAA Championships, which continue Thursday and Friday before concluding
Saturday.
