GENESEO, N.Y. – The #20 Geneseo ice hockey team
(10-5-1) won for the seventh time in eight games, rallying for three
third-period goals to beat visiting Franklin Pierce (4-7-2) Saturday.
The Knights, who entered the final period trailing 1-0 despite outshooting the
Ravens 24-13 through 40 minutes, needed just 101 seconds to score twice and
take the lead. Senior forward Kaz Iwamoto (Tomakomai, Japan/Wyoming Seminary)
scored the tying goal 1:05 into the final period and junior forward Zachary Vit
(Villanova, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) netted the game-winner just 36 seconds
later. Vit’s goal, his fifth of the season, came on the power play after
Franklin Pierce’s bench was whistled for a two-minute minor at 1:30.
First year defenseman Nate Brown (Bethel Park, Pa./Bay State Breakers) added
another power-play goal (his third goal of the year) in the eighth minute and first
year forward Ryan Donnelly (Stittsville, Ont./Kantana Stallions) closed out the
scoring at 16:17 with his third goal of the winter.
Sophomore defenseman Jack Caradonna (Markham, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) assisted
on Vit and Donnelly’s goals, raising his season total to 16 points. His 14
assists rank second nationally among defenseman.
Sophomore forward Justin Scharfe (Webster/Bridgewater Bandits) also collected pair
of assists. He and junior forward Garry Childerhose (Altoona, Man./Melfort
Mustangs) assisted on Iwamoto’s goal with sophomore forward Tyler Brickler (Riverwoods,
Ill./UMass-Lowell) picking up the second assist on Vit’s game-winner. Scharfe
and first year defenseman Alex Lubczuk (Kitchener, Ont./Georgetown Raiders) picked
up assists on Brown’s goal with senior forward Nick Ryan (Rochester/Buffalo
Junior Sabres) adding on assist on Donnelly’s score.
First year Nick Horrigan (Mount Forest, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) stopped 17
Raven shots to improve to 2-1-0 on the season.
The Knights return to action Friday, hosting Fredonia in a State University of
New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game.
