The winner of the Louise Kuhl Award for outstanding contribution by a female student-athlete, Montgomery is a five-time All-American in cross country and track and field. She is a four-time NCAA Division III cross country championship participant, including leading the Blue Knights to the College's only Division III team national championship with a third place individual finish as a first year runner in 2005. The SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame member has won two SUNYAC cross country individual championships, has been a part of four SUNYAC and two Atlantic region cross country team champions and, in 2007, posted her highest individual finish with a second place run in the NCAA cross country nationals. All tolled, she claimed three All-America certificates in cross country and two in indoor track and field, both of those coming in 2007 in the 5,000 meters and the distance medley relay. Off the track, the elementary and special education major graduated with a 3.94 grade point average and used her final year of eligibility as a graduate student in the School of Education. She won the Dr. Dolores Bogard award as the top scholar-athlete in SUNYAC in 2007-08 and captured three SUNYAC Scholar-Athlete awards for having the highest GPA on the All-SUNYAC team.
