The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team has been an intercollegiate sport since the winter of 1915. Head coach Steve Minton is a 1986 graduate of Heidelberg College has a record of 151-115 in 10 seasons. The program was started by John O'Neill and has compiled a record of 827-852-1 in its 91 seasons.
In 2009-10, the men's basketball team finished the season with a 7-18 record. The Knights finished the conference season with a record of 6-12 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2003. Senior Brandon Simpson earned honorable mention All-SUNYAC after leading Geneseo with 15.4 points and 6.7 rebounds, while classmate Kyle Stevens contributed 11.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and a team-best .370 from the arc (37-100). Stevens finished his career fourth in three-point field goal percentage (98-241-40.7%) and 12th in three-point field goals made on the Geneseo charts. Sophomore Abe Miller added 8.6 points with 5.9 rebounds and shot 60.3% (94-156) from the field, while junior Mike Baker paced the team with five assists per contest. Sophomore Mike Hoy fought through an injury-plagued season to average 7.1 points in just 18 minutes per game, including setting a school record for free throw percentage in a season at 90.2% (37-41).
