Amherst, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s swimming & diving team (8-5) won its final dual
meet of the season, beating Buffalo State 131-124 in a meet held at the
University at Buffalo.
The Knights won nine of the 16 events, paced by first year Justin Ongkingco (Watertown/Watertown),
who won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.59 and swam the second leg on the
winning 200-yard medley relay team.
First year Andy Schunk (Ardsley/Ardsley), junior Paul Jennings (East
Northport/Elwood-John Glenn) and first year Tyler Roth (Fredonia/St. Francis)
rounded out the first-place 200 medley relay, which posted a time of 1:44.63.
Senior Frank Schiappa (East Amherst/Canisius) won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.95
and
sophomore Jeff Hong (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) took first in the 200-yard
freestyle with a time of 1:53.43.
In the 50-yard freestyle, first year Ben Greenspan (Williamsville/Williamsville
East) placed first in 23.77. Sophomore Kenny Athans (Victor/Victor) posted a
winning time of 2:00.34 in the 200-yard butterfly.
Sophomore John Nasky (Rochester/Brighton) won the 1,650-yard freestyle
(16:47.17) and first year Brian Yale (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) was the
winner in the 100-yard backstroke (55.62).
Junior Brandon Peifer (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) rounded out Geneseo’s winners,
posting a score of 283.50 in the 3-meter diving.
The
Knights host the Geneseo Invitational next Saturday in their final tune-up
before the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)
Championships.
