Tampa, Fla. – The Geneseo men’s swimming & diving team placed third of fourth teams – and first among Division III schools – at the Tampa Relay Invitational. In the combined men’s and women’s team scores, Geneseo placed second of seven schools.
The Knights were the highest placing Division III team in each of the 10 events
and posted a pair of runner-up finishes. The 300-yard butterfly team of first
year Yonghoon Jun (Nanuet/Tappan Zee), senior Austin Brennan (Stony Brook/Ward
Melville) and sophomore Kenny Athans (Victor/Victor) took second in 2:45.32 and
the 200-yard freestyle unit of senior Frank Schiappa (East Amherst/Canisius),
Jun, first year Jordan Gay (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) and Athans placed second
in 1:29.87.
Two other Geneseo relays placed third. In the 400-yard individual medley relay,
first year Kristian Tialios (Mount Tremper/Onteora), Athans, junior Paul
Jennings (East Northport/Elwood-John Glenn) and sophomore Branden Dahlem (Rhinebeck/Our
Lady of Lourdes) recorded a time of 3:56.19; and in the 400-yard freestyle
relay, the quartet of Schiappa, Jun, Gay and first year Tyler Roth (Fredonia/St.
Francis) finished in 3:19.77.
The Knights return to
dual-meet competition this weekend, facing New Paltz Friday and Rochester
Institute of Technology Saturday in meets at RIT.
