Junior Bri Dunton scored 13 points with four assists on 5-11 from the field and 3-6 from the arc to lead the Geneseo women's basketball team to a 66-47 win over host Oswego in the regular season finale. First year Lea Sobieraski came off the bench to score 12 points on 5-5 shooting from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe and senior Kiki Campbell added nine points, seven rebounds, four steals and three helpers. Geneseo burst out to a 7-0 lead and built a 19-point lead at 33-14, before settling for a 35-23 advantage at the intermission. In the second half, Oswego got no closer than 10 points as the Blue Knights cruised to the win. Geneseo finishes the regular season at 22-3 overall and 17-1 in SUNYAC and the top-seeded Blue Knights host #8 Brockport on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament.
Select members of the men's and women's swimming and diving team traveled to Kenyon University for the Kenyon Last Chance meet and sophomore Frank Schiappa highlighted the performances by posting an NCAA provisional qualifying and school record time of 20.69 in leading off the 200 freestyle relay team with Aaron Wagner, Andrew Kuter and Dan Strothenke which turned in an NCAA provisional, SUNYAC and school record time of 1:23.24. On the women's side, senior Michelle Rodriguez won the 200 free in 1:51.76 and the 200 back in 2:06.12, while sophomore Meghan Green won the 500 free in 5:07.17 and placed fifth in the 200 free in 1:55.91.
Junior Mike Hoy hit 7-14 from the field, 3-6 from the arc and 6-7 from the line for 23 points, but the Geneseo men's basketball team ended their season with a 54-50 loss to host Oswego. Junior Abe Miller added seven points and seven rebounds and first year Lamont Stokes collected 10 rebounds. Oswego raced out of the gates to a 19-6 lead on the way to a 31-19 advantage at halftime. Early in the second half, Hoy scored eight points in a 9-0 run to tie the game at 33 with 14:15 remaining. The Lakers secured the win with an 8-0 run from the 5:04 to the 1:56 mark to lead 54-46. The Blue Knights complete the season with a record of 11-14 overall and 5-13 in SUNYAC.
The Geneseo men's ice hockey team, ranked #9 in the latest USCHO.com poll, traveled to #1 Oswego tonight and dropped their regular season finale by a score of 7-1 as the Lakers netted six goals in the third period to break the game open. After a scoreless first period, Oswego scored the lone goal of the second at 6:46. The Lakers scored a 4-on-4 goal at 2:20 of the third period and added a power play goal at 3:16 to take a 3-0 lead. After Oswego advanced to 4-0 with a shorthanded goal at 9:58, first year Carson Schell put the Ice Knights on the board from junior Jake Yard at 12:07. Oswego added a power play goal at 15:14 and tallies at 16:23 and 17:59. Sophomore Adrian Rubeniuk made 40 saves in nets for Geneseo as they complete the regular season with a record of 16-7-2. The Ice Knights are the #2 seed for next week's SUNYAC tournament and host a semifinal game on Saturday, February 26 at 7 p.m. against an opponent to be determined after Wednesday's first round games.
