The nationally 14th-ranked Geneseo ice hockey team scored three goals in a 55-second span of the third period to break open the game and go on to a 6-1 win over visiting Framingham State. Sophomore winger Zachary Vit (pictured left) scored two goals and two assists to lead the offense, junior defenseman Colin de Jersey added a goal and an assist and junior center Kaz Iwamoto contributed two assists. With the score 2-0, junior Corbin Rosmarin scored at 3:25 of the third period on the power play, senior David Arduin struck at 3:40 and sophomore Carson Schell completed the spurt with a goal at 4:20. Framingham netted their lone goal at 6:58 of the third period to spoil the shutout bid of first year Bryan Haude, who stopped 15 shots to claim the win in his first career start. Geneseo moves to 4-3-0 on the year and travels to Potsdam on Friday.
The Geneseo men's swimming and diving team traveled to Cortland today and won a 161-133 decision over the Red Dragons. Senior Dan Strothenke, senior C.J. Schaub and first year John Nasky (pictured left) each won a pair of events. Strothenke won the 50 (22.44) and 100 (49.08) freestyle events, Schaub captured the 100 (1:02.11) and 200 (2:20.70) breaststroke and Nasky won the 1000 (10.04.59) and 500 (4:56.58) freestyles for the Blue Wave. Senior Josh Kaplan won the 100 back in 55.21, first year Brian Schaub won the 200 fly in 2:07.30, junior Austin Brennan won the 100 fly in 55.40, Kenny Athans won the 200 IM in 2:04.32 and Brandon Peifer took one-meter diving with a score of 250.50. The Blue Wave is 2-1 on the season and travels to Ithaca for a quad meet with Hartwick and Hamilton on Saturday.
The Geneseo women's swimming and diving team took on Cortland this afternoon and dropped a 149-145 decision to the hosts. Three Blue Wave swimmers won two events today as first year Abby Max won the 100 back in 1:03.57 and the 500 freestyle in 5:22.11, junior Kaitlin Wilcoxen won the 100 (1:10.04) and 200 (2:33.45) breaststroke and Caroline Gardner won the one-meter and three-meter diving events with scores of 217.45 and 223.55, respectively. Junior Corinne Vairo won the 200 free in 2:01.70 and senior Jade Plaschka won the 100 fly in 1:01.89. Geneseo falls to 2-1 on the season and travels to the Ithaca Quad meet with Hartwick and Hamilton on Saturday.
The women's equestrian team hosted the first of their two home shows this afternoon and saw three riders claim first place awards and three take second place. Senior Casey Williamson won a first on the flat and a second over fences in the Intermediate equitation. Geneseo's Katie Mackowiec took first in Advanced Walk, Trot, Canter and Jordan Laux took a first in Walk/Trot. Senior Karina Stamitis won a second over fences in the Intermediate class and senior Caroline Patton won a second in Advanced Walk, Trot, Canter. The Blue Knights host their second show on Sunday at Rolelu Farms.
