The men's lacrosse team, currently ranked #10 in the USILA Coaches Poll, hosted Clarkson University this afternoon and won a 10-7 decision as junior Craig Lange scored four goals and two assists to lead the Blue Knights. Geneseo scored the initial three goals of the game on the way to a 4-2 lead at intermission. The Golden Knights scored with two seconds remaining in the third quarter to pull within 6-5, but Geneseo netted three goals in the opening three minutes of the final period to pull away. Junior Scott Cost had a goal and one assist, while juniors Kevin Centore and Bobby King, sophomores Chris Adams and Brendan Kurpis and first year Tim Hayden collected one goal each. Senior Dennis Costanza made 14 saves in posting the victory in goal, while senior Brian Sanna caused four turnovers and scooped five groundballs. Geneseo moves to 5-1 on the year and hosts Oswego on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-13 decision to 18th-ranked William Smith this afternoon at McCooey Field in Geneva, N.Y. William Smith scored the initial 10 goals of the game on the way to a 13-3 lead at halftime. Geneseo responded to pull within seven goals at 15-8, but the Herons scored four of the next five goals to clinch the victory. Senior Abby Hungerford led Geneseo with five goals, one assist and six draw controls and first year Rachel Petrone added four goals and five draws. The Blue Knights won the draw battle, 22-13, as Anna Hutchings collected four draws and four groundballs. Junior Lauren Burgoon added two goals, while Kim Magee and Tara Murphy scored one goal apiece. Geneseo falls to 2-2 on the season and travels to St. Lawrence on Tuesday.
The men's outdoor track and field team opened their season at the Ithaca Invitational today. Geneseo posted five winners as senior Andrew Sorrento won the hammer throw with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 52.35 meters, sophomore Nwana Okafor won the long jump (6.59 meters), senior Lee Gabler won the 800 meters in a time of 1:57.85, Greg Izzo captured the 400-meter hurdles in 57.10 and the 1600 relay team of Jon Brotsch, Pat Gallagher, Niko Brown and John Gammariello won in 3:31.09. In addition, senior Ken Wickey was second in the shot put with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 14.35 meters, Gallagher claimed second in the 200 meters in 22.91 and senior Ryan Joyce placed second in the triple jump (12.47 meters). Geneseo splits the squad for their next competition with the distance runners going to Bucknell on Friday, April 9 with the rest of the team traveling to Rochester on Saturday, April 10.

Sophomore Alyssa Smith won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an ECAC-qualifying time of 11:55.57, sophomore Julie Dmochowski won the 800 meters in 2:24.09 and the pair teamed with Maggie Morris and Cailin Kowalewski to win the 1600 relay in a time of 4:14.73. Junior Maria Barbaglia was second in the hammer throw with 37.67 meters, sophomore Ashley Jones ran second in the steeplechase in 12:12.32, Kowalewski was second in the 800 in 2:25.32 and Colleen Murphy was second in the 400 hurdles in 1:11.16.
