Ithaca, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s track & field team
competed at Cornell’s Kane Invitational Saturday. No team scores were kept at
the primarily Division I meet.
Graduate student Alyssa Smith (Rochester/Brighton) won the mile run with a time
of 5:01.45. Smith, one of two Division III athletes to record a first-place
finish at the meet, recorded the nation’s eighth-fastest time (and the best in
the State University of New York Athletic Conference) and her performance ranks
fourth on the program’s all-time list.
Sophomore Keira Wood (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North) placed fourth in the
800-meter run with a time of 2:14.81. Wood now ranks sixth nationally and her
time is Geneseo’s second-fastest ever.
She and Smith both recorded Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)
Championships qualifying performances as well.
Geneseo placed third in the 1,600-meter relay team, recording the program’s second-fastest
time ever. Junior Allison Hoh (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima), senior Cailin
Kowalewski (Fredonia/Fredonia), Smith and Wood finished in a time of 4:03.53,
which ranks 25th nationally.
In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Joanna Castrogiovanni (Smithtown/West) and Alyssa
Knott (Smithtown/Smithtown West) both recorded ECAC qualifying performances.
Castrogiovanni was eighth in 18:28.02 and Knott took 10th in 18:36.21.
Kowalewski finished eighth in the 800-meter run (2:18.21).
Junior Emma Deshaies and first year Shannon Murphy (Jamestown/Falconer)
finished ninth and 11th in the mile run, posting respective times of 5:17.76
and 5:19.12.
