The men's indoor track and field team traveled to Hobart College today for the 2010 SUNYAC Indoor championships and posted five winners in winning their first team title since 2006 with 157 points to Cortland's 95. Sophomore Wenley Louis won in the long jump and the triple jump today, with NCAA provisional distances of 7.17 meters and 14.34 meters, respectively. Senior Pat Gallagher won the 400 meters in 50.14, senior Tim Chichester, who was fifth in the 3,000 meters in 8:49.67, won the 5,000 meters in 15:03.75 and junior Eric Rickman captured the shot put with a toss of 14.34 meters. In addition to Chichester, the Blue Knights distance core thrived as junior Ryan O'Connor placed third in the mile in 4:17.00 and fourth in the 3,000 meters in 8:46.98, sophomore Lee Berube placed second in the 3,000 meters in 8:31.41 and fourth in the mile (4:19.14), senior Jesse Berube was third in the 5,000 meters in 15:17.45 and senior Bobby Henchen ran fourth in the 5K in 15:18.79. Senior Ken Wickey placed third in the shot with 14.29 meters and sophomore Nwana Okafor finished third in the long jump with a distance of 6.85 meters. Geneseo travels to the ECAC championships at Smith (MA) College on Friday and Saturday.
The women's indoor track and field team placed second this afternoon at the 2010 SUNYAC Indoor championships at Hobart College in Geneva. Buffalo State won the team title with 143 points, while Geneseo posted 140 points. Sophomore Alyssa Smith posted the lone win for the Blue Knights in leading Geneseo to the top four finishes in the mile run in 5:15.88. Senior Sandra Goettelman was second in 5:15.99, first year Marissa Liberati was third in 5:17.22 and graduate student Maggie Morris was fourth in 5:17.70. Geneseo continued dominance in the distance events as Liberati was second in the 3,000 meters in 10:27.11 and Goettelman was third in 10:39.90, while graduate student Liz Montgomery placed second in the 5,000 meters in 18:24.87 and first year Brigid Heenan was third in 18:32.02. Senior Kristin Shumway was second in the 400 in 59.61 and third in the triple jump with 11.10 meters, first year Jillian Weidman was second in the 800 meters in 2:17.46, first year Rachel Serpe placed second in the pole vault with a 3.05 meter height and Brittany Talani was third in the shot put with a toss of 11.10 meters. The Blue Knights travel to the ECAC Division III championships on Friday and Saturday at Smith (MA) College.
