The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team has been an intercollegiate sport since the fall of 1974. Head coach Jim Chen has posted a record of 92-27 over nine seasons after spending three seasons as an assistant coach.

The program was started by coach Tom Pope, was discontinued due to the SUNY-wide budget cuts of 1980, but was reinstated in the fall of 1994 under coach Jeff Brown. The team has compiled a record of 176-94-1 in its 23 seasons.

In 2010-11, the team highlighted their season with a second place finish at the SUNYAC championships for Chen, scoring 36 points to champion New Paltz's 42. Geneseo produced two SUNYAC singles champions and won two doubles titles. First year Lucy Mehrabyan earned first team All-SUNYAC after winning second singles and teaming with junior first team All-SUNYAC pick Melissa Baker to win second doubles. Sophomore Sarah Shields, who won fifth singles, and junior Katie Gayvert claimed first team All-SUNYAC after capturing third doubles. Junior Monica Vieth and sophomore Katie Talbot received second team All-SUNYAC after falling in the singles finals at first and sixth, respectively. Geneseo posted a mark of 11-3 in dual matches, including going 3-0 on their spring break trip to Puerto Rico. For the combined season, Mehrabyan posted a record of 22-4 to lead the team, including 12-1 at second singles. Talbot was 13-2 in singles play on the way to a 16-4 overall record, Gayvert went 26-6, Sheilds was 25-6 and Vieth was 24-8.
