GENESEO, N.Y. – The #15 Geneseo ice hockey team (15-6-1) rallied for three third-period goals to beat visiting Canton (4-11-0) in a non-league game Saturday.

The Knights, who won for the 12th time in 14 games, trailed 2-1 heading into the final period after the Kangaroos took the lead just 71 seconds before the second intermission. Geneseo tied the score on a goal by junior forward Zachary Vit (Villanova, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) just 1:54 into the third, then scored the game-winner seven minutes later when senior forward Ryan Bulach (Kelowna, B.C./Trail Smoke Eaters) scored his second goal of the game.

Bulach’s first goal had also given the Knights a lead; after Canton opened the scoring less than five minutes into the game, Geneseo picked up the tying goal when first year forward Devin Rice (Ottawa, Ont./Ottawa Junior Senators) converted passes from senior defenseman Brandon Angotti (Stamford, Conn./Springfield Falcons) and senior forward Kaz Iwamoto (Tomakomai, Japan/Wyoming Seminary) just two minutes later. Bulach gave the Knights their first lead, notching his seventh goal of the season 33 seconds before the end of the period. Iwamoto and Rice assisted on the goal. Iwamoto has six assists in his last four games.

After the Kangaroos scored twice in the second period, Vit started Geneseo’s third-period rally by scoring his sixth goal of the season off assists by sophomore forward Tyler Brickler (Riverwoods, Ill./UMass-Lowell) and junior forward Carson Schell (Saskatoon, Sask./Nanaimo Clippers).

Bulach scored the game-winner 34 seconds after a Kangaroo penalty put the Knights on the power play. Vit and Brickler assisted on the goal, his eight of the year and his team-leading sixth power play goal. Brickler now has 18 points in his last 10 games.

Senior forward Corbin Rosmarin (Rexford/Northern Cyclones) closed out the scoring with an empty net goal – his team-high 11th of the season – with 17 seconds left. Angotti recorded his second assist of the game on the play.

Senior Adrian Rubeniuk (Grandview, Man./Dauphin Kings) recorded 22 saves. Geneseo’s defense held Canton to just two shots on goal in the decisive third period.

With three regular-season games remaining, the Knights’ 14 wins match their second-highest regular-season total since 1998.

Geneseo returns to action Friday with a 7 p.m. game at #9 Plattsburgh.
