Sophomore Kayla DeAngelis (pictured left) scored three goals to lead the Geneseo women's field hockey team to a convincing 5-1 win over the host Nazareth Golden Flyers this afternoon in a game that was originally scheduled for Geneseo, but moved to Nazareth due to poor field conditions caused by Tuesday and Wednesday's rain.
DeAngelis opened the scoring at 6:40 on an assist from classmate Kerry Hosford, struck again from sophomore Katie Farley at 32:10 and completed the hat trick at 38:50 from Hosford for a 3-0 lead. It is the seventh time a Geneseo field hockey player has posted three goals in a game and first since Jeanine Tripepi '07 accomplished the feat versus Oneonta in 2006. Forward Leslie Howlett '03 boasts the Geneseo record for goals in a game with four versus Brockport in 2001.
Hosford scored at 51:42 from Jill Flanagan for a 4-0 lead before the Flyers got on the board at 63:25. Geneseo's Abby Weiss notched her first career goal at 64:26 to complete the scoring. Junior Caitlyn Dowell posted the win in nets by making two saves in 55:51, while Nicole Zito made two saves and allowed the lone goal in 14:09 of action. Geneseo moves to 8-7 on the year and takes on New Paltz at Bloomsburg, Pa. on Saturday at 3 p.m.
