The women's basketball team traveled to Rochester as the #4 seed for the consolation round of the Wendy's College Classic and defeated the top-seeded Nazareth Golden Flyers, 62-61. In the first half, Geneseo trailed 9-6 early before going on an 11-2 run to take a 17-11 lead, their largest of the half. Nazareth responded with a late three-point field goal to cut the Geneseo lead to two at the intermission, 23-21. In the second half, the two offenses awoke as Geneseo shot 55% (12-22) and Nazareth hit 42% (15-36). The contest was tied at 43 with 11:04 remaining when the Knights went on a 10-1 run to take a nine point lead. Nazareth responded to Geneseo's largest lead at 58-48 by posting a 9-1 run to pull within two points at 59-57 with 31 seconds left. Geneseo made 3-6 free throws in the final 31 ticks and Nazareth hit a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer to make the final. Sophomore Katelyn Charbonneau scored 10 of her team-high 13 points in the first half and grabbed five rebounds and junior Alyssa Polosky netted 10 of her 12 points in the second half to lead the Knights. Junior Khadija Campbell scored nine points and grabbed nine boards and sophomore Bri Dunton netted nine points with a career-high seven assists, five caroms and three steals. The Knights, who came into the game shooting 61% from the line, hit 16-23 (69.6%) and won the rebound battle, 44-34. Geneseo moves to 6-5 on the season and will play the winner of RIT and Keuka in the fifth place game at Nazareth College on Saturday at 1 p.m. men's
The men's swimming and diving team traveled to Monroe Community College today and won a 136-80 decision. Geneseo's Drew Rogers won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.94 and the 500 free in 5:03.12 and junior Wills DeMoulin won the one-meter board (270.10) and the three-meter board (285.70) to pace the Blue Wave. Geneseo had three other winners as Josh Kaplan took the 200 free in 1:51.24, Mike Daly won the 100 free in 50.38 and Kevin Quatro touched first in the 100 back in 57.80. Geneseo takes on RIT and New Paltz at RIT on Saturday.
The women's swimming and diving team defeated the Monroe Community College Tribunes today at MCC by a score of 139-73. Sophomore Becca Maisonet won the 200 free in 2:02.73 and the 500 free in 5:28.54 to lead Geneseo. Junior Kelly Young won both diving events with a score of 235.85 on the one meter and a score of 253.95 on the three meter. The Blue Wave had three other winners as Kaitlin Wilcoxen won the 200 IM in 2:20.39, Kelly Battaglia won the 100 fly in 1:04.85 and junior Jennifer Anthone won the 100 breast in 1:13.99. Geneseo travels to RIT to take on the Tigers and New Paltz Hawks on Saturday.
