The men's ice hockey team traveled to Castleton (VT) tonight and tied the Spartans, 2-2. Castleton opened the scoring at 8:34 of the first period, but the Ice Knights came back to lead 2-1 after one period. Sophomore Jimmy Powers scored at 17:18 on the power play from Jake Yard and Jonathan Redlick to even the game at one and first year Colin de Jersey scored his first career goal from Yard and junior Andrew Rygiel at 18:23. Castleton evened the game at two at 9:45 of the second on the power play to complete the scoring. Sophomore Cory Gershon made 38 saves in nets as the Ice Knights move to 7-8-1 on the season. Geneseo hosts Curry on Friday at 7 p.m.
The women's basketball team traveled to Roberts Wesleyan College tonight for the first round of the Wendy's College Classic. The fourth seeded Knights fell to the #5 Raiders by a score of 55-42. Geneseo led 27-21 at the intermission, but were held to 15 points in the second half on 5-32 (16%) shooting. First year Kyra Rhoades came off the bench to score seven points on 2-2 from the field and 3-3 from the line and junior Brittany Finkle scored six points off the bench in the first half. Junior Kiki Campbell netted five points with nine rebounds and junior Alyssa Polosky grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Geneseo committed 29 turnovers and won the rebound battle, 48-38. The Knights fall to 5-5 on the season and will face Nazareth College in the consolation bracket on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Rochester.
