GENESEO, N.Y. – Two members of the Geneseo ice hockey team
(17-8-1) have been named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference
(SUNYAC) all-star team. Sophomore defenseman Jack Caradonna (Markham,
Ont./Stouffville Spirit) was a first-team selection and junior forward Zachary
Vit (Villanova, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) was named to the third team.
Caradonna was the only sophomore named to the 18-player all-conference team and
one of only two non-seniors to earn first-team accolades. He is Geneseo’s
second-leading scorer and ranks ninth nationally in points among defensemen. Caradonna’s 22 assists lead the team and are the highest total by any Division III blue
liner this year. Both of his goals have been game-winning scores. In 45 career games, he’s scored 28 points.
“Caradonna was the class of our league as a defender this year” praised Geneseo
coach Chris Schultz. “He has a great opportunity at achieving all-America status
.”
Vit has earned postseason recognition from the SUNYAC all three years of his
career. He was the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2011 and earned third-team
all-conference honors a year ago. Vit is Geneseo’s leading scorer, compiling 29
points on seven goals and 22 assists and has been the Knights’ top scorer each
of the past three seasons. He and Caradonna rank second and third in the SUNYAC
in assists. Vit has raised his career total to 95 points (32 goals, 63
assists). He has scored power play goals this winter and 13 in his career.
"Even after three years as a top forward in our conference, Vit is still
improving and is capable of becoming more of an impact player in the future”,
said Schultz. “He quarterbacks a power play that ranks sixth nationally and has
a shot at playing professionally."
Geneseo posted a regular season record of 16-81, placing
third in the SUNYAC standings. The Knights routed Potsdam 9-0 in the SUNYAC quarterfinals
and will play at second-seeded Plattsburgh in Saturday’s semifinals.
