Fredonia, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (18-6,
13-4 SUNYAC) rallied for a 59-47 win at Fredonia Friday in a State
University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game.
The host Blue Devils, who led 22-21 at the half, opened the second period with
a 14-8 spurt to open up a seven-point advantage (36-29 6:19 into the half) – their
biggest lead of the night. The Knights chipped away with an 11-3 run, taking
the lead for good on a lay-up by sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis
(Walworth/Gananda) with 7:38 left.
McGinnis recorded her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and
pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Cara Manfredi (South
Glastonbury, Conn./South Glastonbury) led Geneseo with 16 points – one short of
her career high – and matched a personal best with seven rebounds. The Knights,
who lead Division III in rebounding margin, posted a 47-30 rebounding
advantage.
First year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn) finished with 14
points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Melissa Graham (Orchard Park/Mount
Mercy) added eight rebounds and led the Knights with four assists.
The Knights close out the regular season Saturday, hosting Buffalo State in a 6
p.m. game. They’ll be the second seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Championship
Tournament, taking on either the #3 or #6 seed in a semifinal game at New Paltz
Friday, Feb. 22.
