Brockport, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (7-3, 3-1 SUNYAC) snapped
a two-game losing streak with a 79-42 rout of host Brockport (4-7, 1-3 SUNYAC)
Tuesday.
The Knights held the Golden Eagles without a basket for nearly 11 minutes
during a first-half run that saw them pull away from a 9-8 lead to open up a
31-10 advantage.
Sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Gananda/Walworth) led Geneseo with 20
points and sophomore guard Biz Reinhardt (Rochester/Hilton) pulled down a
career-best 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Katie Peterson (Ithaca/Ithaca)
recorded career-best totals of 18 points and nine rebounds while playing just
12 minutes.
Geneseo outrebounded the host school 58-33 and held Brockport to 30.6 percent
shooting from the floor (including a 23.1 percent mark in the first half, when
the Golden Eagles made just six baskets in 26 attempts).
First year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn) blocked a
school-record seven shots and added eight points and six rebounds. Senior guard
Melissa Graham (Orchard Park/Mount Mercy) added 14 points and seven rebounds. First
year guard Amelia Heiselman (Central Square/Bishop Grimes) led Geneseo with a
career-best eight assists.
The Golden Eagles scored a basket 6:14 into the first half to pull within 9-8
but Geneseo responded with a 26-2 run to go up 35-10 before Brockport’s next
basket, which came with 2:56 left in the opening period.
The Knights continue conference play Friday, hosting Plattsburgh at 6 p.m.
