GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (14-4, 10-2 SUNYAC) rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit to beat visiting Oneonta (8-10, 5-6 SUNYAC) in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play Saturday. With the win, the Knights remain one half game out of first place in the league standings.

The Red Dragons scored the first basket of the second half to take a 31-23 lead before Geneseo used a 22-6 run to go up 45-37 midway through the period. Oneonta’s 12-0 run gave the visitors – who saw their four-game winning streak snapped – a four-point lead. The Knights came back to take the lead for good on a pair of free throws by first year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn) with 2:30 left. The Red Dragons had a chance to take the lead but a three-point attempt with 49 seconds left was blocked by senior guard Melissa Graham (Orchard Park/Mount Mercy) and Geneseo hit four free throws in the final seconds.

McKenna collected her second straight double-double, scoring a team-best 12 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. She also blocked four shots and recorded a career-best three assists. Sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) scored 11 points and collected a career-high 18 rebounds.

Graham finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. She raised her career totals to 636 rebounds and 105 blocked shots; Graham ranks sixth on the program’s all-time rebounding list and is one block away from tying the school record of 106. First year guard Dana Cohan (Rochester/Greece Athena) finished with 10 points and a career-high five rebounds.

The Knights continue SUNYAC play Tuesday with a 6 p.m. game at Oswego.
