Ithaca, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s swimming & diving
team stands in fourth place after the first day of competition at Ithaca’s
Bomber Invitational. The Blue Knights’ score of 158 points trails only
Springfield among Division III schools at the 11-team meet, which continues
Saturday and Sunday.
Sophomore Abigail Max (New Hartford/New Hartford) recorded Geneseo’s top
individual performance, placing fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of
5:04.89. Max was the top Division III finisher and her time was just 1.7 seconds
off the NCAA B qualifying mark. Junior Connie Vairo (Poquot/Ward Melville) finished
14th in the event with a time of 5:18.96.
Senior Elyssa Max (New Hartford/New Hartford) took 14th in the 50-yard freestyle (24.86) with first year Julie Holloway (Pittsford/Rush-Henrietta) coming in 20th place (25.56).
In the 200-yard individual medley, junior Lauren Boyce (New Hartford/New Hartford) was 16th and sophomore Eileen Goralski (Queensbury/Queensbury) placed 19th with respective times of 2:13.96 and 2:14.67.
Geneseo’s highest finish of the day came in the 200-yard
medley relay. The quartet of sophomore Haleigh Wixson (Montour Falls/Watkins
Glen), senior Kaitlin Wilcoxen (Manlius/Fayetteville/Manlius), first year
Hailey Modelewski (Northport/Northport) and Abigail Max took fourth place
(first among Division III schools) in a time of 1:49.81.
Junior Emily Wanamaker (Camillus/Christian Brothers Academy) finished 14th in
the 3-meter diving with a score of 335.35.
