Amherst, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s swimming & diving team (7-6) won its
final dual meet of the season, beating Buffalo State 144-127 in a meet held at
the University at Buffalo.
The Knights won eight events, paced by junior Emily Wanamaker (Camillus/Christian
Brothers Academy), who swept the diving events to run her individual winning
streak to nine. She scored 246.90 in the 1-meter diving and 250.88 in the
3-meter competition.
Junior Kaitlin Wilcoxen (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius), junior Lauren Boyce (New
Hartford/New Hartford) and junior Lily Powell (Selkirk/Bethlehem) each won an
individual event and swam on the first-place 200-yard medley relay team.
Wilcoxen won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.49, Boyce touched first in the
100-yard backstroke (1:03.57) and Powell finished first
200-yard butterfly (2:14.26). In the 200-yard medley relay, sophomore Abby Max
(New Hartford/New Hartford) joined Boyce, Wilcoxen and Powell to finish first
in 1:55.40.
Junior Erin O’Brien (Lansing/Lansing) and senior Elyssa Max (New Hartford/New
Hartford) rounded out Geneseo’s winners; O’Brien won the 1,650-yard freestyle
(19:11.74) and Max placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.70).
The Knights host the Geneseo Invitational next Saturday in their final tune-up
before the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)
Championships.
