Brockport, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s track & field team
placed third of 11 teams at the Brockport Invitational, led by a pair of
first-place finishes and a school-record performance.
Junior Allison Hoh (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) ran a 9.49 in the
60-meter hurdles, breaking a 21-year-old school record. The previous Geneseo mark
of 9.81 had been the program’s second-oldest record. Hoh placed second.
Junior Mary Aldridge (Rochester/Brighton) and senior Danae Polsin (Baldwinsville/C.W.
Baker) were Geneseo’s winners. Aldridge placed first in the mile run with a
time of 5:10.77 and Polsin finished first in the 3,000-meter run (10:33.70).
Five teammates joined Polsin in the top 10 in the 3,000-meter run. Sophomore
Keira Wood (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North) was second in 10:31.34, sophomore
Cassie Goodman (Phelps/Midlakes) finished third in 10:35.27, sophomore Joanna
Castrogiovanni (Smithtown/West) placed fourth in 10:40.86, first year Shannon
Murphy (Jamestown/Falconer) took fifth in 10:52.63 and sophomore Alyssa Knott (Smithtown/Smithtown
West) came in 10th in 11:00.01.
Three other Knights were runners-up: senior Cailin
Kowalewski (Fredonia/Fredonia) took second in the 800-meter run (2:22.70); senior
Jessica Shumway (Potsdam/Potsdam) and junior Carrie Levinn (East Nassau/Averill Park) tied for second
in the high jump, clearing 1.53 meters (5-0 1/4).
Following Aldridge in the mile run were four other Geneseo top-10 finishers.
Sophomore Lauren McKnight (North Massapequa) placed third in 5:23.77, senior
Brigid Heenan (Liverpool/Liverpool) was fourth in 5:24.48 and first years Winny
Chen (New York/Brooklyn Technical) and Ashton Hughes (Fairport/Fairport)
finished ninth and 10th with respective times of 5:33.33 and 5:33.43.
First year Ellie Trelstad (White Plains/White Plains) posted a third-place time
of 19:52.14 in the 5,000-meter run.
Geneseo placed four runners in the top 10 in the 400-meter dash: sophomore
Hannah Hughes (Olean/Olean), sixth in 1:02.04; junior Towi Kuberka (Clarence/Clarence),
seventh in 1:03.60; first year Kylie Ryan (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon), eighth
in 1:03.81; and Stephanie Newman (West Seneca/Mount Mercy Academy), 10th in
1:04.70.
Sophomore Elyssa Slawinski (East Northport/ Northport) took seventh in the
weight throw; her mark of 13.15 meters (43-1 3/4) is the program’s ninth-best.
Senior Alyssa Smith (Rochester/Brighton) was fifth in the 800-meter run with a
time of 2:25.64 and senior Diahann Cuevo (Mohegan/Yorktown) placed eighth in
the 200-meter dash (27.53).
First year Danelle Turney rounded out the Knights’ top-10 individual finishers,
placing 10th in the shot put with a mark of 10.11 meters (33-2).
Geneseo recorded two top-10 relay performances. The 1,600-meter foursome of
Wood, Smith, Kowalewski and Ryan took third in 4:12.63 and the 800-meter relay
team of Hoh, sophomore Kristen Gottstine (Tillson/Kingston), sophomore Hannah
Hughes (Olean/Olean) and Cuevo finished sixth in 1:53.30.
The Knights return to action Saturday, competing at Tufts’
Cupid Challenge Meet.
Results
