The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team has been an intercollegiate sport since the fall of 1981. Head coach Nate Wiley is a 1999 graduate of SUNY Geneseo and has a record of 40-27-8 after four seasons. The program was started by Fred Bright and has compiled a record of 331-175-45 in its 29 seasons.
The 2009 women's soccer team finished with a 14-4-3 record, a SUNYAC title and appearance in the NCAA Division III championships for fourth year coach Nate Wiley. The Knights posted a fifth place record of 4-3-2 in SUNYAC, defeating Buffalo State in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament, Oneonta in the semifinals and Cortland in the championship game, 2-1. In their first national tournament appearance since 1994, Geneseo lost to Endicott (MA) in penalty kicks, 6-5, after playing to a 1-1 draw. Senior defender Lindsey Feuz earned SUNYAC Player of the Year, first team All-ECAC Upstate and first team All-SUNYAC after leading the Knights to a SUNYAC-best 0.69 goals against average. Senior midfielder Melissa Beale, who finished with six goals and two assists for 14 points, was named SUNYAC tournament MVP, while seniors Stephanie Bergin, Eileen Coyle and Feuz garnered All-Tournament team recognition. Forward Coyle, who led the team with 27 points on 13 goals and one assist, midfielder Bergin, who had two goals and four assists, senior midfielder Katie Price and junior goalkeeper Katie Clerkin, who posted a 0.78 goals against in playing 1728 of 1970 minutes, claimed second team All-SUNYAC honors. Sophomore midfielder Bre Glynn received third team All-SUNYAC, first year Kelly Bergin scored five goals and two assists for 12 points and junior forward Jane Matejcik added two goals and three helpers. Junior Ashley Keogh and sophomores Molly Bralower and Alex Miller joined Feuz on defense. |
