Graduate School Application Checklist and Timetable

Junior year/Summer before Senior year

1. Start to identify programs of interest (consult Faculty and professionals in your field).
2. Contact programs to request catalogs/applications.
3. Make note of deadlines.
4. Determine standardized test requirements.
5. Prepare for standardized tests. (GRE, LSAT, MCAT, GMAT, etc)

September/October of Senior year

1. Continue to research programs.
2. Take appropriate standardized tests.
3. Write draft of personal statement.
4. Research financial aid, assistantships and scholarships.
5. Request letters of recommendation from faculty members and supervisors.
6. Set up a placement/credential file.
7. Attend graduate school events on campus.

November/December of Senior year

1. Finalize personal statement; have it critiqued by a career counselor and/or faculty member.
2. Complete applications.
3. Submit requests to have official transcripts sent from the Records Office; time receipt to graduate programs for AFTER your application arrives.
4. Submit requests to the Office of Career Development to have your placement/credential file mailed; time receipt for AFTER your application arrives.
5. Continue to research financial aid opportunities.
