What's so bad about money in politics?

Lots of things! First of all, privately funded elections do not give many opportunities for most of the middle class and the poor to run for public office. Unfortunately because of this, many minority groups are underrepresented. Fair and Clean Elections allow many culturally and ethically diverse people to run for office and actually win! In addition, it allows women to have more opportunity for running for office. Also, it levels the playing field for incumbants and new candidates, poor and wealthy candidates, well known and less popular candidates because it gives financial aid to thsoe who have none without having to go to corporations, special interest groups, and PACs! With fair and clean elections everyone wins!Candidates are elected because of their great ideas for all, not because of their promises to top donors.

How does money get in politics in the first place?

In order to create a more pure Democracy, we have to start at the root of the problem. The problem occurs during city, state, and national elections. When candidates run for office, corporations, special interest groups, and PACs donate money to candidates. In exchange, when politicians are elected, these politicians create and pass legislation that is in favor of these big donors. Thus, weakening Democracy and ignoring the general public.

How do fair and clean elections work?

Fair and clean elections work by a candidate pledging not to accept any campaign money from special interest groups such as PACs and lobbyists.

He or she will then go through a series of collection periods where a candidate will gather small donations from individuals. This brings canvassing and campaigning back to its orginal grassroots tradition. Instead of hosting for example, fancy $500 plate dinners, a candidate must talk with many people and seek lots of support. Lots of people with small donations are sought instead of a small group of people with lots of money.

This allows candidates to listen to the populace and work for the majority of people.

Are fair and clean elections voluntary?

Yes! It is completely up to the candidate to choose if he or she would like to run using fair and clean elections.

Where are fair and clean elections happening right now?

Arizona, Maine, New Mexico, Connecticuit, New Jersey, North Carolina, Vermont, and Portland, Oregon.
